press release: Speedflex (UK & Ireland) Limited
How the Speedflex classes at Places Leisure have transformed their members' fitness journey.
Places Leisure continues to expand its inclusive fitness offering with the development of their increasingly popular instructor led Speedflex sessions - a high-intensity, low-impact workout designed to help members train safely, effectively and at a pace that suits their needs. The Places Leisure Spelthorne location is celebrating the remarkable progress of two of their members, whose experience with Speedflex classes showcases just how accessible, adaptable and transformative the equipment can be - particularly for those managing long-term health conditions.
For Melanie Hernandez, who lives with Osteoarthritis and recently underwent a hip replacement, Speedflex has become a life-changing part of her workout routine, allowing her to regain strength, reduce pain and rediscover the joy to be found in exercise. “I have definitely become stronger since I began working out with Speedflex and have been able to recover quickly from my hip replacement - back participating in Speedflex classes after just six weeks! I have been able to adjust the exercises to suit my needs and though I was in a lot of pain following my hip replacement Speedflex has really helped with my recovery. It is advertised as ‘HIIT Without The Hurt’ and it’s just that!”.
This versatility, combined with the ability to fully tailor each Speedflex workout to the individual, is what makes it so inclusive, and with Speedflex’s resistance-based technology adjusting to suit the needs of each user, the experience is completely personalised, joint-friendly and empowering - a crucial benefit for anyone managing long-term conditions. Adding to this, the skilled instructors at Places Leisure are always on hand to offer alternatives for any exercises a member may find challenging, ensuring everyone can get involved and participate safely and effectively.
For Roger Alleyne, Speedflex has not only transformed his training inside the gym but has also helped him become more active in everyday life. With a job that involves walking between different levels while carrying varying loads, the functional strength and endurance gained through Speedflex have proved invaluable. Short on time, the high-intensity 30-minute sessions also allow Roger to balance his training with a busy lifestyle. As he notes, his “strength and endurance have increased dramatically - and my muscles are the best they’ve ever been.”
For many Places Leisure members Speedflex is more than just a workout. It’s an accessible and empowering training solution that helps people like Melanie return to fitness with confidence and comfort, while enabling others like Roger to achieve meaningful, lasting results. Beyond the physical benefits, the mental boost has been equally powerful. “The Speedflex classes at Places Leisure are so much fun, with great music,” Melanie adds. “I come away from every class buzzing. You don’t even notice you’re exercising because the instructors make it such an enjoyable experience.”
Paul Ferris, CEO and Founder of Speedflex, adds: “Stories like this really demonstrate what Speedflex is all about - creating a safe, adaptable and empowering environment where anyone can improve their fitness, build confidence and feel good. Places Leisure’s commitment to supporting their members of all abilities, including those living with long-term or pre-existing health conditions, by offering innovative equipment that makes movement more inclusive is something that we love to see. We’re proud to work with a facility that continues to embrace the Blade to help their members achieve incredible results, no matter their starting point”.

We’re proud to have such an inclusive fitness competition which represents our whole member demographic and fitness ethos.”

The workout is both safe and inclusive which makes it the perfect fit for our diverse range of customers. Our guests can now enjoy a revolutionary fitness experience during their stay, reaffirming our commitment to offering the best amenities and services at The QHotels Collection."
– Keith Pickard, group director of golf, health club and spa, The QHotels Collection
Many operators have machines which are challenging for certain demographics of our community to use, least of all our seniors! But Speedflex is different. I have seen customers approach it for the first time, play on the screen and easily start a workout, and better still, they say their joints didn't hurt either.
Whilst many operators would put two units next to a rig, we have one in an open space and another in a quiet space; more private, less on show. It’s this unit the majority of individual users go to. Yes, the studio classes are better for having one but don’t rule out having one as part of your special populations area too.
I was surprised how well Speedflex sits in both camps. HIIT Without the HURT, perfect for classes and studio but equally as good for seniors to do those all-important compound movements; Osteoporosis fighting, strength training. Riskfree."
