CTFC to hold racecourse meeting
Cheltenham Town Football Club (CTFC) has confirmed that it will be meeting with the town's racecourse and local authority over plans to relocate to a new home ground.
Discussions with Cheltenham Racecourse and Cheltenham Borough Council are still at an early stage, but the football club is considering the possibility of moving to a new stadium, which would be located partly site owned by the horse racing venue. CTFC has played at its current Abbey Business Stadium since 1931, which boasts a capacity of more than 7,000 spectators. However, the club is now considering its options in a bid to grow and attract increased support.
Initial discussions have already taken place with the racecourse, as well as with developers interested in redeveloping the Abbey Business Stadium, but the recession has restricted the available options. CTFC chair Paul Baker said: "We'll be attending a meeting on 12 October with the Racecourse and Borough Council to further discuss what opportunities may be available for the re-location of Cheltenham Town Football Club to the racecourse.
"We will go into the meeting with an open mind and we are currently reviewing all areas of our operations including the possibility of either re-locating the ground or re-developing the Abbey Business Stadium." It follows a report by the BBC that the club has received an interest free loan from an anonymous backer, having applied for a loan to the council earlier in the year.
