Kore Sandwell expands smart fitness offering with EGYM launch at Wednesbury and Tipton Leisure Centres
Kore Sandwell (formerly Sandwell Leisure Trust) is continuing its investment in member health and wellbeing with the installation of EGYM at Wednesbury Leisure Centre and Tipton Leisure Centre, bringing industry-leading smart fitness technology to even more local residents.
Following the successful introduction of EGYM at Portway Lifestyle Centre, members at Wednesbury and Tipton will soon be able to experience a new approach to fitness that combines intelligent equipment, personalised workout plans and real-time progress tracking.
The results at Portway Lifestyle Centre have demonstrated the positive impact EGYM can have on member engagement and activity levels. Over the past 12 months, 1,240 new members have been onboarded onto the system, equating to more than 100 new users every month. Users complete an average of 3.9 EGYM workouts per week, contributing to an impressive 395,000 total workouts over the last year.
Data from Portway also shows that members who regularly use the EGYM circuit stay members for longer than those who do not, supporting improved retention and demonstrating the long-term value of the programme.
The technology has also proved particularly popular with older adults. Around 67% of EGYM users at Portway are aged 50+, including 17% aged 70 and over, highlighting the accessibility and inclusivity of smart strength training. The platform has also attracted strong female participation, with women representing 63% of users.
EGYM is a connected fitness system designed to remove the guesswork from training. Members begin with a comprehensive assessment measuring strength, mobility and overall fitness levels before receiving a personalised programme tailored to their goals.
One of the biggest barriers to exercise is knowing where to start. EGYM simplifies the gym experience by providing structured guidance and personalised programmes, making physical activity more accessible for beginners, older adults and those lacking confidence in traditional gym environments.
Mark Braithwaite, CEO of Kore Sandwell, said: "The success of EGYM at Portway has shown how effective smart fitness technology can be in helping people become more active and stay motivated. We're excited to bring these benefits to members at Wednesbury and Tipton and support even more residents on their health and wellbeing journey."
The smart strength equipment automatically adjusts to each user, setting the correct resistance, seat position and range of movement. Every workout is tracked, allowing members to monitor their progress through the EGYM app.
One of EGYM's most innovative features is BioAge, which measures how a person's fitness compares to their actual age, providing valuable insights into long-term health and wellbeing.
All Kore members using EGYM will also receive three complimentary one-to-one sessions with a trained fitness professional to help them get started and maximise their results.
The rollout forms part of Kore Sandwell's ongoing commitment to providing accessible, modern and effective fitness experiences that help more people become active and improve their health.
Regular exercise can play a vital role in reducing the risk of long-term health conditions including obesity, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. By making exercise easier to access and understand, EGYM supports residents to make positive lifestyle changes that can improve both physical and mental wellbeing.
The technology provides clear progress tracking and personalised goals, helping members stay motivated and engaged. This supports long-term behaviour change, encouraging more residents to maintain active lifestyles and improve their health over time.
Because the equipment automatically adjusts to individual needs and abilities, EGYM is suitable for a wide range of users, from complete beginners through to experienced gym-goers. This aligns closely with Kore Sandwell's mission to provide inclusive opportunities for physical activity across the borough.
The installation demonstrates Kore Sandwell's ongoing commitment to investing in modern, high-quality facilities that benefit local communities while ensuring residents have access to some of the most advanced fitness technology available.
