Places Leisure Camberley named busiest swimming pool in the UK by SWIMTAG

06 Mar 2025
Saundra Evans is a Places Leisure Camberley member and user of SWIMTAG / Places Leisure
Places Leisure, who operate and manage the leisure centre in Camberley on behalf of Surrey Heath Borough Council, has been named the busiest swimming pool in UK amongst SWIMTAG users for the fourth year running.

In 2024, Places Leisure Camberley had over 17,000 swims tracked at the centre with the next busiest swimming pool tracking just over 9,000.

Opened in July 2021, Places Leisure Camberley has two swimming pools – a six-lane, 25m pool and a 20m training pool with moveable floor. Every week the centre provides 18 adult swimming lessons, as well as 66 structured lane swim sessions and over ten ‘Just Swim’ sessions which either have a dedicated space of the pool or a few dedicated lanes for casual swimmers.

SWIMTAG is a popular option for many swimmers at the centre especially those participating in lane swimming. The wearable bracelet allows swimmers to track the number of lengths they complete, split times, stroke type and stroke rate. Linking to a mobile app, users can keep track of key swim statistics such as average pace, distance per stroke, calorie burn and rest percentage. As well as being able to set personal goals, individuals can take part in competitions and challenges.

Phil Duncan, Sport and Programming Manager at Places Leisure, said: “Since its opening in 2021, Places Leisure Camberley has always been popular for swimming. We are delighted to have been named the busiest swimming pool in the UK for the fourth year by SWIMTAG. This is a huge achievement for us and our teams who work hard to support our customers and make their visits enjoyable.

“We see the benefits swimming can bring to individuals every day both physically and mentally, we are always looking at ways to make swimming more accessible to the community. We have many sessions throughout the week where our customers can use SWIMTAG including our adult swimming lessons where everyone can set their own personal goals and track their journeys.”

Saundra Evans, a Places Leisure Camberley member and user of SWIMTAG, said: “Camberley is close to where I live, it's the best place in the world to start your day! The staff are all wonderful. SWIMTAG tells me how long I've been in the pool for, how many calories I've burnt and how many lengths I've done.”

Ian Richards, a Places Leisure Camberley member and user of SWIMTAG, said: "I like the competitions, they challenge me and keep me interested - I'm in the Top 10 UK for all age groups. The lane swimming system at Camberley is efficient and well organized, with good session times. The people are friendly and there's a social atmosphere in the pool."

Philip Maxwell, Technical Director at 222 Sports Limited (developers of SWIMTAG), said: “Places Leisure Camberley has truly embraced the SWIMTAG system, delivering an outstanding experience for their members. Their commitment to engagement and innovation sets them apart, making swim tracking more interactive and enjoyable. It's fantastic to see such high usage at their centre, reflecting their dedication to helping members achieve their fitness goals."
