PRESS RELEASE
Myzone’s new White Paper to transform engagement through Motivation Technology
04 Dec 2025
Motivation Technology (MoTech) / Myzone
Global fitness technology leader Myzone has released its new free white paper, Motivation That Moves: The Science of Behaviour Change in Fitness, to shift the industry focus from traditional tracking tools to Motivation Technology (MoTech) that inspires movement.
Despite the huge popularity of wearables, apps and tracking devices, operators still face a fundamental challenge: keeping members engaged over the long term. Most new members drop out within the first 90 days, resulting in lost revenue and stagnant growth.
Jay Worthy, CEO, Myzone says: “The industry doesn’t have a data problem, it has a motivation problem. We’ve created this white paper to help operators keep members consistent. Consistency is the real currency in health and fitness. Without it, revenue, retention and engagement all suffer. Motivation Technology is the next step for our industry, bridging the gap between signing up and showing up.”
Drawing on the latest research with experts, operators and consumers, the white paper translates behavioural science into action. It includes insights into the psychology of motivation, strategies to influence behaviour and habit formation, and key takeaways for operators to drive engagement for long-term commercial growth.
Dr Heather McKee, Motivation Science Advisor at Myzone, says: “The future of fitness is motivation-led, not measurement-led. When movement is self-directed, progress is visible and effort is shared, people continue to participate. This is Motivation Technology. The outcome for operators is measurable retention; for members, it is sustainable change.”
Motivation That Moves helps operators reimagine technology not as a tracker, but as a behaviour-change engine. By focusing on motivation rather than measurement and prioritising connection, feedback and community, operators can create healthier members, build stronger communities and deliver sustainable commercial success.

“Myzone’s not just a flashy screen. It’s motivation technology, community and a social platform working together to keep people engaged long term.
“There is clear correlation between high Myzone engagement and strong coaching participation. It also creates stronger retention because members feel part of a community and have that extra layer of accountability that keeps them coming back.”
– Donald DesPierre III, fitness manager, Anytime Fitness Clubs

“We decided that we’d give every member a Myzone belt on joining and that it was an integral part of our ‘Thrive Welcome Process’. We did this because it was 100% in-line with our vision of helping more people be active and feel good.
“At Thrive, we use Myzone during every session to help effectively coach our members to get the most out of the session. That doesn’t mean always pushing, but rather educating effort levels and helping with recovery. It helps members understand how to effectively train for different types of sessions from personal training to our fitness classes.”

“When people understand effort, it makes all the difference. When you say eight out of 10 to 30 people, every individual’s effort is different. When you learn about your own effort, you start to feel it in your body.
“That’s why I love using Myzone. We're also seeing our David Lloyd gym members using Myzone in the Pilates Reformer studio, too. Reformer is harder than it looks, and people are starting to see the benefits of a heart rate monitor within a wide variety of fitness training genres.
“We’ll all never go without it. I’ve got to get my MEPs!”
