Wetherspoon to open at 10am and serve breakfast
JD Wetherspoon has announced that after successfully introducing cappuccinos across its pub chain, it now plans to open all pubs at 10am to provide coffee and breakfasts.
The announcement was made as part of the group's preliminary results for the year ending 28 July 2002, in which it reported a sales increase of £117.3m (24 per cent), to £601.3m.
During that year the group opened 87 pubs, for a total of 610 now operated by the group.
This year, as well as upgrading its IT systems, food delivery systems, training, buying and design of new pubs, Wetherspoon applied for licences to admit children accompanied by an adult to some of its sites and after seeing an increase in food and soft drink sales, has applied for licences for nearly all sites.
Chairman, Tim Martin, said: 'Our approach is to try and make small incremental improvements to the business regularly, rather than instigating major reorganisation.'
The company was also awarded the Supreme Training Award from the British Institute of Innkeeping for the second year in a row and won design awards for pubs in Llandudno and Ross-on-Wye.
The group currently has 25 sites under construction, 60 with permission for development, 60 on which terms have been agreed and 166 under negotiation. Details: www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk
