Green light for Preston's Tithebarn project
A cinema, cafés and bars are to be created as part of a multi-million pound regeneration scheme in Preston, following approval from the government.
The mixed-use Tithebarn project has been given the go ahead by communities secretary Eric Pickles after the proposals were called in. Preston City Council (PCC), which is working alongside developer Lend Lease on the scheme, welcomed the government's decision.
PCC leader Ken Hudson said: "Now that we have planning permission, we can continue to work closely with our partners to decide what the next stages are. "With our partners Lend Lease and Lancashire County Council we can now start to take Tithebarn forward with renewed energy and enthusiasm."
A new bus station, retail units, offices and homes form part of the scheme, along with the renovation of Preston Markets.
