Bookmakers call for Levy to be scrapped
The Association of British Bookmakers (ABB) has called on the government to replace the Horserace Betting Levy with a new commercially-negotiated arrangement by 2014.
An adjournment debate on the future of the Levy is to take place at the House of Commons today (13 July), with the ABB urging a solution based on the sport's 'Fixture List'. ABB chief executive Dirk Vennix said: "We have to redefine the relationship between horse racing and bookmakers for the better, with a modern commercial arrangement fit for the 21st century."
"We would welcome a constructive meeting with horse racing, facilitated by government, to discuss how a commercial framework could work in 2014."
