Indigo Fitness – Bespoke Spaces

Third Space partnered with IndigoFitness to deliver a bespoke training space for its new club at The Whiteley

Set within a landmark Grade II listed redevelopment in west London, Third Space at The Whiteley demanded far more than a standard gym fit-out. The brief required a design-led solution that could integrate advanced training concepts, elevate the member experience and work within the constraints of a sensitive heritage structure.

For IndigoFitness, it was an opportunity to demonstrate what’s possible when gym design, engineering and manufacturing are aligned.

The club presented a series of challenges that couldn’t be solved with conventional approaches.

Strict acoustic and vibration limitations applied across the entire site, requiring careful consideration of how every piece of equipment interacted with the building. The layout itself introduced further complexity, with structural pillars, irregular geometry and a large central skylight influencing how the space could be used.

At the heart of the gym, a combat zone needed to function as both a high-performance training area and a visual centrepiece. Elsewhere, a new personal training concept built around a cable rack required fully-integrated storage and a premium, branded finish.

Also, a dedicated HIIT studio had to support Hyrox programming – all within a space constrained by limited ceiling height.

Delivering against all these requirements called for a partner capable of designing and manufacturing bespoke solutions, while working closely with architects and project teams.

Third Space The Whiteley is a clear example of how premium fitness training spaces are evolving

Creating the solution

IndigoFitness approached the project as a fully integrated design and engineering challenge, where every element needed to be chosen in response to the building and the training outcome.

To reflect the geometry of the skylight, a fully bespoke combat cage was engineered using custom frame sections, branded pads and integrated flooring.

The system combines ceiling, pillar and precision-positioned pedestal fixings, allowing it to remain structurally robust while working within acoustic constraints. A sliding bag rail and dedicated combat storage complete the space, creating a training concept that also acts as a defining visual feature. Four PT Pods were developed around the IndigoFitness Cable Rack, each designed as a multi-functional training hub.

Due to the acoustic flooring, none of the structures could be fixed. Instead, each pod was engineered as a freestanding solution, maintaining stability, usability and a premium finish without compromise.

Bespoke logo plates, shrouds and integrated storage reinforce Third Space’s identity, while inset Graphix platforms define each area clearly within the wider space.

In a space where ceiling height was limited, precision became critical

Functional space and intelligent integration

Across the gym floor, storage and training were combined to improve flow and maximise usability.

Double-sided storage units create natural pathways through the space, while pillar-wrapping storage transforms structural constraints into purposeful training stations. Wall ball targets, dip stations, muscle-up positions and throw walls are integrated directly into the space.

In a space where ceiling height was limited, precision became critical.

IndigoFitness engineered a custom cable wrap hub and installed six wall ball targets with millimetre accuracy to ensure full Hyrox compatibility.

The lifting space was finished with a fully curated IndigoFitness strength offering, including stainless steel Shadow XD racks, Olympic benches and adjustable benches.

Custom storage, plate trees, sleds and bar solutions were designed to integrate into the space, ensuring consistency in performance and appearance.

To meet the demands of the building, a comprehensive acoustic approach was taken throughout the project, including spreader plates beneath equipment to distribute load, acoustic pads to reduce vibration transfer, pedestal systems fixed into the slab prior to floor build-up and inset platforms integrated with Third Space branding.

Raising the standard

Third Space The Whiteley is a clear example of how premium training spaces are evolving. No longer about specifying equipment, it’s about delivering considered training concepts where design, engineering and user experience work are considered from the outset. For operators, it highlights what can be achieved when a bespoke approach replaces standard solutions, with the right partner is in place to deliver it.
