Technogym and World Athletics bring Run X to the London Marathon
An immersive preview of the world’s first indoor running championship on treadmills, designed to connect runners everywhere through technology and global competition.
At the 2026 London Marathon Expo, Technogym and World Athletics unveil Run X, the firstever World Treadmill Championship: an indoor virtual running competition set to connect professional athletes and enthusiasts in fitness and sports centres around the world in a completely new way.
Thanks to Technogym’s smart treadmills and digital ecosystem, Run X will give runners the chance to compete in a certified 5 km global championship, with real-time online leaderboards and rankings shared across countries and continents.
Runners and visitors to the London Marathon Expo will be able to discover a preview of Run X at a dedicated booth, offering a first look at the innovative indoor competition that combines cuttingedge technology, performance and community. Run X reimagines running by breaking down traditional barriers such as location, time and weather, bringing the thrill of a worldclass race indoors, inside fitness and wellness centres around the globe.
With more than 40 years of leadership in running innovation and the world’s largest installed base of connected treadmills, Technogym, together with World Athletics, has created a certified, immersive racing experience. Run X allows runners of all levels to compete over a 5 km distance, with realtime global leaderboards and standards inspired by elite athletics.
At the London Marathon Expo, runners and fans will be able to explore the Run X concept up close, experience the technology behind it and learn how to take part in the world’s first treadmill championship.
Runner registrations to the official competition will open from early June, marking the start of the journey towards a global challenge that will culminate in 2026 with a spectacular world final in an iconic location.
Run X is more than a race. It’s a new way to run, train and connect, anywhere in the world.
