Parkwood Leisure unveils ambitious gym refurbishments for Cherwell contract in £700k project
23 Jan 2024
Leading leisure management operator Parkwood Leisure has completed significant upgrades to its Cherwell contract / Parkwood Leisure
The gyms at Bicester, Spiceball and Kidlington & Gosford Leisure Centres have been upgraded to feature cutting-edge equipment, redesigned layouts, and a refreshed fitness environment for an unparalleled workout experience. The financial investment to replenish these sites exceeded £700,000, with Spiceball Leisure Centre in Banbury receiving £300,000 with an additional £30,000 invested in state-of-the-art ICG spinning bikes.
All three facilities have been equipped with the latest state-of-the-art Life Fitness gym equipment, featuring a redesigned layout that emphasises an increased free weights section. The complete redecoration of each gym aims to enhance the overall aesthetic and create a vibrant and motivating atmosphere for members. Woodgreen Leisure Centre in Banbury is also set to benefit from some smaller scale improvements.
Councillor Nigel Simpson, Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure, said: “We are keen to deliver high quality opportunities for Cherwell residents to take part in sport and exercise – whether it’s a firm favourite they enjoyed at school, or something new they are discovering later in life. I am thrilled to see new gym equipment being installed at the district’s leisure centres, it is a clear sign of our commitment to investing in our residents’ fitness and wellbeing, and shows the ability of Parkwood our valued partners to deliver for them. January is always a busy month at the leisure centres, and with excellent new equipment now ready for users to enjoy, there really is no better time to explore everything they have to offer.”
Glen Hall, Managing Director for Parkwood Leisure, said: “These refurbishments align with Parkwood Leisure’s commitment to providing unparalleled fitness experiences to its members with sustainability and longevity at its core. The investment underscores the company’s dedication to promoting health and wellness within the Cherwell community.”

Testimonial
“We have enjoyed a fantastic partnership with Parkwood Leisure for more than 10 years. They manage all of our leisure facilities including four leisure centres and Edwalton golf course, and the knowledge, expertise and experience they bring is first class. The slick operation they run, combined with innovative ways they’ve engaged local residents, mean we’ve never had a more physically active community and we’re excited to continue our partnership into the future.”
