Wars Wars explodes with new Depth Charge
Distributor Innovative Leisure has added an optional extra to its Water Wars balloon game – the Depth Charge.
In Water Wars, players launch water-filled balloons towards an opposing battle station with the aim being to land the balloons on the roof of the station to burst, spraying the contents on the players below. With the depth charge added however, if a balloon lands on a target on top of the station, it triggers a sensor which sends a signal to a water trough in front of the station and sets off the Depth Charge, firing a huge spray of water up in the air and soaking players in the process. A siren and flashing lights are also activated.
The feature is available on new installations or as an upgrade kit on existing attractions.
“The Depth Charge has added a whole new aspect to Water Wars,” said Phil Pickersgill, managing director of UK and European distributor Innovative Leisure, “and provides yet more fun and amusement to an already hugely popular attraction. It can be included on any new installation but is also available as an upgrade item for existing units, thus giving operators the chance to add even more to the game. And it’s not just great for the players – the Depth Charge is an excellent crowd puller and increases the fun element for spectators too.”
The first operator in the UK to add Depth Charge to the game is Adventure Island in Southend-on-Sea, which originally installed Water Wars for the 2006 season and added the new feature for 2007.
“It is working extremely well and definitely helps to attract customers to the area,” commented park director Marc Miller. “It increases the enjoyment of the game and adds much to the experience. It’s very successful. Every time it goes off it always brings a big smile to the faces of players and laughter from spectators. It fits very well with our family orientated customer base.”
