US patients seeking cosmetic injectables should weigh options
A survey conducted for the Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety in the US has shown that, when it comes to cosmetic injectable treatments, those who visit a plastic, facial plastic or opthalmic plastic surgeon are more likely to have their procedure carried out by a doctor as opposed to a physician’s assistant or registered nurse.
The survey – conducted by the Ohio-based Industry Insights company – questioned physicians from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Society of Opthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as a further 5,700 doctors in the US.
Commenting on the survey’s results, Coalition spokesperson Roger A Dailey said: “The choice between an injectable or surgery should be decided by the surgeon and patient together, based on what can safely and realistically be achieved for the patient.”
The Physicians Coaltion for Injectable Safety is an alliance of speciality physician organisations, which provides the US public with unbiased information on injectable treatments.
