Two Tio Pepe awards for Aikens, but Ramsay leaves empty handed
Former bad boy chef, Tom Aikens, walked off with two prestigious Tio Pepe ITV London Restaurant Awards last night – while Gordon Ramsay and his protégés headed home empty-handed despite several shortlisted places.
Aikens won New Restaurant of the Year for his Chelsea restaurant and also took home the coveted Tio Pepe ITV London Restaurant of the Year Award.
He was also shortlisted for Outstanding London Chef, but this was won by Pascal Aussignac of Club Gascon.
Executive chef of the Café Spice Namaste restaurant group, Cyrus Todiwala, was awarded Outstanding Contribution to London Restaurants while Chez Bruce was given the London Restaurant Academy Award of Excellence.
Zaffrano chef, Andy Needham, took Italian Restaurant of the Year and Michael Roux Jr’s Le Gavroche took French Restaurant of the Year while the Painted Heron, Hakkasan, St John Bread and Wine and Armadillo respectively won the Indian, Oriental, British and American Restaurant of the Year awards.
The Anchor and Hope in Waterloo took the first ever Gastropub of the Year title, while J. Sheekey won Outstanding Front of House Team and La Trompette in Chiswick won Most Exceptional Wine List.
The awards took place at Grosvenor House on Park Lane last night and will be shown on ITV1 London on 10 March at 11pm.
