South Leeds Sports Centre to close

Leeds City Council (LCC) has announced that South Leeds Sports Centre is to shut from 1 November due to decreasing visitor numbers.
Earlier this month, the council also revealed that the centre's £25,000 monthly running cost was causing "financial strain in the context of broader budget pressures". Although South Leeds Sports Centre is to close, the council's executive board approved a six-month agreement with Tiger 11 - a community group looking to takeover the venue.
LCC executive member for leisure Adam Ogilvie said: "The decision to close the centre is one that we have taken reluctantly but we are optimistic that we can work with Tiger 11 to ensure the facility can once again be viable and well used by the local community."
