Scottish Diamond Wood scheme approved
One of the first 60-acre (24.3-hectare) Diamond Woods to be created in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee has been given the go ahead at the Aigas Field Centre, Scotland.
A total of 60 Diamond Woods are being proposed by the Woodland Trust as part of a UK-wide initiative, with hundreds of smaller Jubilee Woods also in the pipeline. It is anticipated that around 6 million trees will be planted to help mark next year's Jubilee, with the planting to take place between autumn this year and the end of 2012.
Woodland Trust Scotland's Carol Evans said: "We very much hope that this inspires other landowners and communities to join us in paying a very special tribute to the Queen."
