Newcastle Playhouse has re-opened under its new name Northern Stage following a £9m revamp.
The two-year refurbishment has added two new wings as well as improved public spaces and backstage facilities to the theatre.
Chief executive Erica Whyman said: “The most remarkable change is on the stage. The old main house and studio have been joined together to create an Epic Space, which can be used in-the-round or in traverse. With the addition of a groundbreaking acoustic wall, these spaces can be separated into two independent stages.
“As well as having the largest independent stage in the north east, Northern Stage will be the most flexible middle-scale theatre space in the UK.” Details: www.northerstage.co.uk
