Kids flock to Wigan sports camps
Over 300 children from Lowton and Golborne have attended a series of multi-skills sports camps organised by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s Sports Development Unit this summer.
The camps give young people a chance to learn new sports skills from qualified sports coaches and socialise together.
The camps were hosted at Lowton High School and Golborne Parkside Sports Club.
The sports camps are a result of the close links that the Sports Development Unit has developed with the Lowton and Golborne Township Community Safety Group. The group includes Wigan Council’s Community Safety Team, Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire Service and the six local ward councillors.
Mike Watson, Sports Development Officer for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, said: “This summer’s camps have been a real success. We are delighted with the numbers we have had at the camps and the attitude and enthusiasm for sport shown by local children. We hope that the camps success can help young people to learn new skills and develop a good community spirit.” Details: www.wlct.org/sport
