Green light for GCCC stadium proposals
Gloucestershire County Cricket Club (GCCC) has been awarded planning consent for the proposed multi-million pound redevelopment of the County Ground, Bristol.
Bristol City Council's (BCC) development control (north) committee green lighted the development proposals, which was recommended for approval by planning officials earlier this month. The County Ground's seating capacity will increase by 4,000 to 20,000 as part of the scheme, which aims to meet England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) standards for hosting international matches.
A new media centre, an upgraded BS7 fitness club to include a swimming pool and improved conference and hospitality facilities are also included in the plans, along with enabling development of accommodation units for 350 students. A GCCC spokesperson said: "It is essential for the club to develop the ground in order to continue hosting regular international cricket here in Bristol. This development will bring many benefits, not only to our members and sports fans but also to the city of Bristol and the local region."
