Creative Scotland plans moves forward
The establishment of a new cultural development body for Scotland, Creative Scotland, has moved forward after receiving parliamentary approval.
Members of the Scottish Parliament approved the Public Services Reform Bill earlier this week, which will see the Creative Scotland come into existence this summer after Royal Assent is received. Creative Scotland will be a non-departmental public body, which is designed to support arts and culture across the country, encourage more people to access the arts and promote participation.
It will be the first Scottish public agency to be handed equal legal status for its Gaelic and English names in a bid to demonstrate the government's commitment to protecting the Gaelic language. Scottish culture minister Fiona Hyslop said: "Creative Scotland will create a new dynamic that reflects the increasing convergence of art forms and the wealth of creative talent and expertise in Scotland today."
