Innerva unveils next-generation power-assisted exercise range designed with older adults

Innerva will unveil the next generation of its power-assisted exercise equipment at Elevate next week, introducing a user-led redesign that makes exercise more accessible, comfortable and effective for older adults and people with limited mobility.
Developed in collaboration with end users and informed by extensive real-world testing, the enhanced range reflects Innerva’s commitment to helping more people stay active, independent and confident through exercise.
The redesigned equipment incorporates significant improvements in accessibility, ergonomics and durability, ensuring users can exercise safely and comfortably while operators benefit from equipment built for long-term performance.
At the heart of the project has been a co-design process involving older adult exercisers, who worked closely with Innerva’s product development team to evaluate and refine the new designs. Feedback gathered throughout the process helped shape every aspect of the equipment, from ease of access to seating position and overall user experience.
Accessibility has been a key focus of the redesign, with machines positioned lower to the floor to make mounting and dismounting easier and safer. Sliding seats have been introduced on four machines, enabling users to achieve the correct exercise position more easily and comfortably.
The launch provides Innerva’s exercise offering with two brand-new machines – the Pec & Deltoid and the Abductor/Adductor. Replacing the previous Flys & Thighs machine with two dedicated pieces of equipment enables each movement pattern to be optimised more effectively, delivering a more focused and engaging exercise experience.
The enhanced range has been developed and tested at Innerva’s demonstration and research facility, Active Gold in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. Throughout the programme, equipment was repeatedly adjusted, reviewed and refined in response to direct user feedback and comparisons with existing models.
“Innerva’s power-assisted exercise circuit makes such a difference to the lives of our members, helping them to maintain their mobility, confidence and independence. They really valued the opportunity to work with the team to help refine the design of the equipment, which has led to improvements in usability, comfort and accessibility for all users,” says Shaun Fox, director at Active Gold.
Matt Holland, head of product development at Innerva, says: “This project has been shaped by the people who use our equipment every day. By working directly with older adults throughout the design process, we’ve created a range that is easier to access, more comfortable to use and better equipped to support healthy ageing and independent living.
“As demand continues to grow for inclusive exercise solutions that help people remain active for longer, these new designs provide a strong platform for future innovation and expansion across the Innerva range.”
Visitors to Elevate can see the new equipment on stand F10, where Innerva will officially launch the enhanced range. Innerva brand ambassador Mr Motivator, aka Derrick Errol Evans, will be on the stand on Wednesday 17 June and will also appear on the Debate Stage alongside his team of ‘motivators’ to discuss active ageing and the industry’s responsibility to better serve this rapidly growing demographic.
