PRESS RELEASE
Technogym's physical activity campaign gets the nation moving
19 Apr 2023
Let's Move for a Better World engaged more than 100,000 people / Technogym
Between March 14th to 31st more than 100,000 people exercised in over 1200 facilities all around the world, participating in the social campaign and physical activity challenge (in clubs, universities, hotels, and workplaces) collecting hundreds of millions of MOVEs, Technogym's unit of measurement for exercise. The objective of a participating facility was to reach milestones and win exercise packs that can be donated to local non-profit organisations within their communities.
Glasgow Club Tollcross finished in first position on the UK leaderboard, with over 280 million MOVEs, out of 230 participating UK facilities, engaging more than 500 Glasgow Club members who came together to donate their MOVEs to help win fitness equipment to donate to Active Glasgow East Community Sports Hub, a programme through SportScotland’s ‘Club and Communities’ strand, the Community Sport Hub (CSH) programme aims to bring sport, physical activity and local partners together supported by investment received from The National Lottery to improve access to local activity provision.
Sharon Campbell, Health, Fitness and Infrastructure Manager said this: "It’s great to see Let’s Move for a better World back after the pandemic, we were so excited in 2020 to beat our performance from 2019 where we came 2nd Place, we had mega plans to try and achieve first place for 2020 however the World came to a standstill and we never thought it would be ever the same. So, I am so delighted that we have regained and captured member support and enthusiasm, as well as fantastic staff motivation from our Health and Fitness team at Tollcross in getting the challenge back on the World Map and Glasgow Club at the top".
Glasgow Club is Scotland's largest health and fitness club; with 15 gyms, 12 swimming pools and over 1,000 weekly fitness classes across Glasgow, with a mission to inspire every citizen and visitor to become engaged and active in a city globally renowned for culture and sport. As a charity, they find innovative ways to make this happen across Glasgow's diverse communities.
Mary, a member of Glasgow Club Tollcross since 2003 said this: "It is a fantastic place! The staff are very friendly, they keep you motivated and ever since these Let's Move challenges began in 2014 I have been in every single one and they are amazing! I'm in my sixties and they keep you motivated, they get you going and make you feel good. I was crowned Miss Move for Tollcross at the last challenge (in 2019) by gaining the maximum number of daily MOVEs (2000) every day and I have done the same this year. This centre opened in 1999 and has been the best thing for the east end of Glasgow. The Gym, the gym team, the classes, and coaches as well as the pool is superb".
This year's runners up and previous winners Crow Wood Leisure have battled It out with Glasgow Club Tollcross throughout the entire campaign, engaging over 700 members, promoting the benefits of physical activity and facilitating connection within the community. Oliver Brown, Director at Crow Wood Leisure said this: “We’ve taken part in the Let’s Move for a Better World campaign since the very beginning, back in 2014 as we believe in everything it stands for. Our staff, members and community always get behind it and it’s great to see the contribution they make year after year. As a business, we are set within 100 acres of greenbelt land within the heart of Burnley, Lancashire which gives us a unique ability to provide an extensive range of fitness, health, leisure and sporting activities to our community in one place, something we are passionate about delivering for all ages and abilities and Technogym’s Let’s Move for a Better World Campaign encapsulates this.”
Alongside its important social message, Technogym's global campaign represents a very powerful tool for facilities to become ambassadors of the Wellness Lifestyle and give a concrete contribution to their local community. Among the promotional activities during the Let’s Move for a Better World Challenge 2023, facilities engaged their users with special events, competitions, and classes to boost users’ loyalty, motivation, and attendance. Something that every participating facility embraced, encapsulated through the social media hashtag: #letsmoveforabetterworld
By focusing on the community each participating facility of the campaign helped improve team spirit and boosted interaction and engagement between each other, stimulating a sense of connection and through the achievement of a common goal - to get the nation physically active. The previous edition (In 2019 due to the pandemic) led to important developments for all participating facilities, showing how attendance increased on average by 26%, new memberships grew by 15% and 86% of the consumers involved (trainers and staff) noted a significant improvement in spirit during training sessions and workouts, which consequently enhanced the working environment and ensured a better atmosphere throughout.
The “Let's Move for a Better World” campaign perfectly sums up the Technogym mission of spreading Wellness on a global scale. Technogym believes that educating people is essential to reach this goal and to create a more sustainable society that has well-being as one of its founding values.
