BLK BOX and Loughborough University set new standards for student-athlete performance environments

Officially unveiled by UK Sport CEO Sally Munday, Loughborough University's expansive new training facility, spanning an impressive combined 3,200 square meters, represents a milestone in elevating the university's elite strength and conditioning environment.
Loughborough University, renowned for its sporting excellence and home to numerous Olympic, Paralympic, and World Champions, as well as the NFL Academy, has earned the distinction of being named the UK's top university for sports in The Times and Sunday Times University Guide.
Speaking on the partnership with BLK BOX, Jo Simpson, Commercial and Facilities Director for Loughborough Sport, said: “This new facility further enhances the world-leading sporting infrastructure at Loughborough University. We’ve worked with our partners to set a new benchmark for accessible and instrumented training environments.
“Together we have created one of the world’s leading elite strength and conditioning centres. It will enable students, athletes, and squads the opportunity to train together without compromise, while creating an important teaching and research environment for our academic ambitions globally.”
With the support of BLK BOX, the expansion of the Powerbase gym stands as a testament to inclusivity, providing a holistic training environment catering to both able-bodied and para-sport athletes, including innovative rack designs and equipment placements. These adaptations ensure that both able-bodied and para-sport athletes can train without compromise. Additionally, it serves as a hub for athlete rehabilitation, pioneering sports research, and nurturing the next generation of strength and conditioning professionals.
Rich Ellis, Head of Gyms & Technical Relationships at Loughborough University, emphasized the collaboration with BLK BOX: "We sought expertise in various domains, and BLK BOX emerged as the preferred choice for several reasons. The latest advancements in the gym will play a pivotal role in Loughborough University's mission to prepare athletes for the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024. Powerbase continues to serve as a central hub for Loughborough's network of 15 performance partners and national governing bodies, further solidifying its status as the ultimate training facility for elite-level athletes.
