£0.3m revamp of Whitehaven Sports Centre complete
Leisure Copeland has officially unveiled £0.3m worth of developments at Whitehaven Sports Centre, including the opening of Jungle Jacks Adventure Soft Play area.
The permanent, three-level play structure allows up to 40 children at a time to dive in and explore the slides, tunnels, ball pools, roller squeeze and climbing nets.
Elsewhere, a former rifle range has been converted into a crèche, party or meeting room and a fitness studio, while the main fitness area has seen the introduction of new cardio vascular equipment, including treadmills, steppers, cross trainers and cycles. Most of the resistance equipment machines have also been replaced and the air movement and extraction from the gym area has been improved.
The sports hall floor was also relined and resealed as part of the overhaul of the centre.
David Henderson, chairman of Leisure Copeland, said: “We are delighted to be officially opening these impressive developments in Whitehaven Sports Centre.
“The ideas for developments came from customer comments this time last year when Leisure Copeland was created, and initial feedback on these new facilities has been mainly positive.
“This investment in the leisure centre is a major step forward in delivering our mission to provide excellent sports and leisure experiences for all. We have also just gone live with a new, more inclusive pricing and leisure card scheme, so hopefully local people will start to take advantage of the benefits on offer.”
Cath Coombs, cultural services manager at Copeland Borough Council, added: “We are extremely pleased that Leisure Copeland has invested significant expertise and money to enable this much needed development to take place so early on in the relationship. We hope many people will come and try out these fantastic new facilities.” Details: www.leisurecopeland.org.uk
