Work starts on Edinburgh skatepark
Construction work on a new 2,100sq m (22,604sq ft) skatepark at Saughton Park in Edinburgh, Scotland, is now underway.
Clachan Construction has been appointed by the City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) to deliver the scheme, which is expected to be completed in spring 2010 depending on weather conditions during the winter. Facilities at the new skatepark, which has been part-funded by sportscotland and Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN), will include beginner areas, intermediate ramps and competition-standard features for experienced riders.
Situated next to Saughton Park's existing play area, the skatepark will be available to beginners and children, while BMX and rollerblade users will also be able to take advantage of the facilities. CEC culture and leisure convenor, Deidre Brock, said: "The addition of a skatepark and improvements to play facilities will help make the Saughton area a genuine sports hub in the city. The sheer range of different activities on offer will benefit people of all ages, helping them to stay active and boost their health and wellbeing."
Saughton Park currently boasts grass football pitches, an enclosed running track, an all-weather third-generation pitch and sevens area.
