Uppingham School sports centre plans approved
Plans for a new dual-use sports centre at Uppingham School in Rutland have been given the green light by the local authority.
Rutland County Council approved the school's proposals for the centre, which will eventually be available for the local community to use. Proposals for the site include a six-court sports hall, a gymnasium, a six-lane, 25m swimming pool, three squash courts, a fitness suite and two dance studios, as well as changing areas and a PE teaching facility.
A spokesperson for the school said that the centre would be built in stages in order to exercise caution during the current economic climate, but it is hoped work can begin within three months. It is anticipated that public use of the centre could start in late 2010 at the earliest.
