Training begins for Suffolk Youth Games
Youngsters interested in taking part in this year's Suffolk Youth Games are being called to training this week.
The event focuses on those who don't normally compete with local clubs and both able-bodied and disabled competitors are invited to take part.
Competitors will be representing their local authority district (such as Forest Heath) and competing against the other districts of Suffolk. The competition is open to anyone from ages 9 to 14 and the big event will be held on Sunday 11 July 2010 in Bury St Edmunds.
Sports include hockey, tag rugby, athletics, table tennis, judo, basketball, tennis, squash and badminton as well as a new skatepark competition. Training begins on Wednesday for the mixed tennis with other sports following over the next few days and the training courses will last around 8 weeks.
Anglia Community Leisure is organising the training sessions and Tony Bass, chief executive, says: "We're looking for children and young people who don't normally take part in sports events.
"It doesn't matter if they have never played the sport before - it's about giving it a go and having fun. Hopefully we may pull out some great new talent, but more importantly we'll be getting more kids active, socialising and enjoying being part of a team. Come and do your bit for Forest Heath!"
