Teachers invited to attend BTTF 2007
The annual British Travel Trade Fair (BTTF) – held at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham in March 2007 – has officially invited school staff to the event for the first time.
The initiative supports the government’s recent Learning Outside the Classroom manifesto, which sets out specific measures designed to help schools widen access to high-quality educational experiences for young people.
More than seven million school children take part each year in visits to museums, city farms, parks, field study centres, nature reserves, residential activity centres and places of worship, but the government would like this number to increase.
Ann Marie Meaney, BTTF’s event manager, said: “The government’s new initiative, announced by education and skills secretary Alan Johnson, is encouraging teachers – and children – to get out more.
“BTTF is a unique opportunity for schools to evaluate the educational opportunities offered by hundreds of attractions, historic houses and castles, theatres and museums from all over the country – all in one place.
“Teachers are already stretched to the limit, and organising school trips is often very time-consuming. We are offering them the chance, free of charge, to explore hundreds of ideas and opportunities in just two days.”
BTTF is organised by Reed Travel Exhibitions on behalf of VisitBritain and the tourism boards of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. It attracts around 400 travel industry exhibitors and 2,500 travel and tourism professionals each year. Details: www.britishtraveltradefair.com
