Swine flu point set up at Peterborough centre
Sports activities at a Peterborough sports centre have been suspended until further notice by the local authority after it was designated as the city's first swine flu assessment and anti-viral collection point.
Peterborough City Council said that the decision to establish the facility at Bushfield Sports Centre had been taken as part of a planned response to the increasing number of cases of swine flu across the city. Some staff members at Bushfield Sports Centre will stay on as key holders and to maintain the facility, while others will be transferred to Werrington Sports Centre and the Jack Hunt Swimming Pool.
Bushfield Sports Centre's summer holiday programme of sports and health and fitness activities for children have also been relocated to Werrington Sports Centre. Dr Richard Spiers, medical director for NHS Peterborough, said: "This new assessment and collection point will make it clearer and easier for flu friends to access antiviral treatment for their ill friend/relative, while ensuring GPs are able to provide the treatment needed for those more at risk."
