Swansea gears up to launch £32m LC
Surfers will be heading to Swansea next month, as the much-vaunted £32m leisure centre, the LC, is set to open its doors.
Comprising Britain’s first indoor surfing centre, a lazy river water ride and a children’s interactive pool among its attractions, this is an ambitious project for the city, and has so far run on time and on budget.
The centre, which also has a multi-use sports hall, replaces a 1970s leisure centre which was abruptly closed in November 2003 when asbestos was found in the building.
Swansea Council leader, Chris Holley, expects it to be a popular facility: “There is a huge buzz and anticipation around the opening of the LC. I am delighted the construction work is on time and budget. This is a wonderful achievement for everyone involved.”
Owned by Swansea Council, the LC will be operated by a not for profit organisation, Bay Leisure.
