Study: Parents 'concerned' about kids' fitness
A quarter of parents and guardians are concerned that children are not taking part in enough physical activity, according to the Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week survey.
More than four-fifths (81 per cent) said they believe sport plays an important role in helping with a child's development, while 92 per cent fully support their kids participating in sport. The survey - commissioned to explore the attitudes of British adults with school-age kids - comes ahead of the Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week between 27 June and 1 July.
More than 14,000 schools and five million children are set to take part in the event across the UK, with organisers hoping to address some of the concerns raised in the research. Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week ambassador Gabby Logan said: "The research highlights the important role [parents] can play in ensuring they remain active beyond school PE lessons.
"As family life gets busier and busier, it's so important that parents lead by example, remain active, and encourage their children to take part in more physical activity." Details: www.schoolsportweek.org
