Springhealth Leisure sold
In a multi-million deal, North East entrepreneur Stan Henry, has bought back the chain of health clubs he sold three years ago to Mazaran Leisure, (now SpringHealth Leisure).
Henry established Springhealth Fitness in 1989 with clubs in Newcastle, South Shields, Sunderland, Stockton, Hartlepool and Low Fell. The clubs have a strong social offering with bars and restaurants in addition to health and fitness facilities. The company was sold to health and fitness operator Mazaran Leisure in 2000, which changed its name to SpringHealth Leisure following the acquisition.
“I’m looking forward to re-creating the excitement and interest in Springs which were such features in the past,” says Henry. This includes further expansion in the North East and increasing the range of social and fitness amenities to mature members.
SpringHealth Leisure will continue to operate the clubs it owns in the South of England and Henry remains a member of the main board.
