Serena Hotels will operate the Kigali InterContinental Hotel and Kivu Sun Hotel in Rwanda from 1 February, following a long-term lease agreement with the Government of Rwanda.
The 104-bedroom, five-star Kigali InterContinental hotel based in the capital will be renamed Kigali Serena Hotel following a US$9.5m (£4.8m, 7.3m euro) revamp, comprising an additional 50 bedrooms and a new health and fitness centre.
The 72-bedroom, four-star Kivu Sun Hotel on the shores of Lake Kivu near the border with Democratic Republic of Congo will be renamed Lake Kivu Serena Hotel, following its redevelopment into a spa resort.
