Plans to establish rugby league as a recognised sport in Pakistan have taken a step forward after the Rugby League European Federation (RLEF) and the British Asian Rugby Association (BARA) carried out a fact-finding trip to the country.
Kevin Rudd, RLEF executive and development officer, together with Ikram Butt, the founder of BARA, visited a school in Islamabad to deliver a taster session to 30 senior players and 50 children.
Butt said: "The response from schools has been great, and this grassroot development will provide the real talent base for rugby league in Pakistan."
The Rugby Football League (RFL) supported the visit to Pakistan. Operations director, Emma Rosewarne, added: "We welcome this important step forward in extending the rugby league family, and look forward to increased participation in all aspects of the national and international game."
