PureGym achieves FITCert Level 4 in UK and Switzerland
PureGym, one of Europe’s largest gym operators, has achieved FITCert Level 4 accreditation across its UK and Switzerland portfolio.
FITcert is the European benchmark for best practice in gym operations and safety and PureGym says less than 4 per cent of gyms across Europe have achieved Level 4.
The assessment covers key areas including health and safety, operational management, facility standards and member experience, providing clear evidence that gyms are operated safely and professionally.
The certification applies to PureGym’s entire estate in the UK, comprising more than 450 gyms, and Switzerland, with 49 gyms. A representative sample of sites across both markets was independently audited as part of the process.
This accreditation provides additional reassurance for members that high standards are maintained during unstaffed hours, when measures such as CCTV and emergency help points are in place.
For colleagues, it reinforces a strong culture of responsibility and pride, embedding safety, quality and compliance across every club.
Rebecca Passmore, group chief operating officer at PureGym says: “Achieving FITcert Level 4 not only recognises the high standards we deliver across our gyms, but also helps raise the bar for safety and operational excellence across the industry.
“Our priority is to create safe, high-quality gyms for both members and colleagues, and this certification provides independent assurance that these standards are being delivered consistently, while supporting our commitment to continuous improvement.
“As we scale across multiple European markets, working to a recognised European standard supports our duty of care and our ambition to maintain world-class facilities and comfortable, inclusive spaces.”
FOOTNOTES
The Gym Group achieved Level 4 in November 2024.
FITCert was launched in 2021 by EuropeActive.
UK Active's The Active Standard (TAS) quality mark is available to all UK Active members and provides a simple process to support operators aspiring to meet specific industry standards.
TAS was conceived as an entry-level certification, meaning that once operators have completed it, they can continue on to higher-level standards through certifications such as the www.FITcert.eu kite marque or the Sport England Quest system, via clear and distinct pathways, without duplication.
