Developer Treasury Holdings has submitted a planning application for the regeneration of Ballymun town centre in North Dublin to the city council.
The 14.5-acre (5.8-hectare) scheme, called Spring Cross, includes 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft) of leisure space, an 11-screen cinema, a bowling alley and a family entertainment centre. The plans also include 61,000 sq m (656,598 sq ft) of retail space, 27,870 sq m (299,990 sq ft) of office space and 367 apartments.
Earlier this year the developer signed a Heads of Terms agreement for the site with the Ballymun Regeneration company and Dublin City Council after several years of negotiations.
The scheme includes the integration of the new Metro North station at Ballymun into the new town centre, and will be situated next to the Republic of Ireland's first IKEA store, which opens in 2009.
The development will play a part in the ongoing wider regeneration of Ballymun and is expected to be completed by 2013.
