British rower and four-times Olympic gold medallist Sir Matthew Pinsent formally launched Soho Gyms’ flagship club in Waterloo, London, on 8 February.

The site, the group’s fifth, was designed by architects Adams and Collingwood and built in just 16 weeks. It is situated within previously disused arches at Waterloo East train station, with space available for expansion.

The 12,500sq ft (1,160sq m) club features an 80-station gym, a holistic studio, exercise studios, a sauna, sunbeds and a café bar. The fitness equipment is supplied by Technogym, chosen by Mike Crockett, managing director of Soho Gyms, because of Cardiowave: “Eight Cardiowave pieces have been installed and the feedback from both instructors and members has been extremely positive. We will roll this out to our other sites shortly.”

The club is targeting a largely corporate membership and has the capacity for 1,500 members.

Soho Gyms is now set to embark on phase two of the Waterloo development, which will include the addition of a group cycling studio and a boxing ring. This space currently houses an exhibition of early 20th century school gym equipment. Details: www.sohogyms.com
