New York surfing resort is back on sale for US$25m
A 30-bedroom hotel on five acres of land (2 hectares) in New York’s Montauk, US, is back on the market for US$25m (€23m, £17m) following local resistance to plans for its conversion into a private members-only surf club.
East Deck Motel and Resort in Montauk’s Ditch Plains was sold in 2013 for US$14m (€13m, £9m) to a group of unnamed investors. According to The New York Post, the investors have spent several million dollars preparing to turn the property into a private club. The same news outlet claims that several high profile potential buyers have been to see the property – which houses an Olympic-size swimming pool – including Ian Schrager and Sean MacPherson.
Listed by Sotheby’s International Realty in East Hampton, New York, the broker Ed Bruehl said: “It’s a shame to see such an iconic property boarded up and closed. We look forward to the day when this property is back open.”
