New Forest backtracks on controversial plan
The New Forest National Park Authority (NFNPA) has backtracked on proposals to impose stricter guidelines limiting the access of dogs and horses within the park's boundaries.
A draft management plan published last year stated that dogs should be banned from some areas of the park to protect local wildlife and to reduce fouling.
Meanwhile, horse owners were also set to be banned from building shelters without first seeking planning permission, as well as being limited to owning only one horse per hectare.
However, the controversial proposals were met with strong protest from local residents, who said it would limit their way of life, resulting in the presentation of a revised plan earlier this week.
The new management strategy will be published in October.
