Naked ambition
David Page, chair of the Clapham House restaurant group, is a man of his word.
Page bet staff at the group’s Real Greek restaurant in Southwark, London, that they wouldn’t make £50,000 in a week’s trading. The stakes were high – the loser had to run naked across Tower Bridge.
Two weeks after the bet was made, Page lost the wager – but deftly swerved the full terms of the forfeit.
He paid £500 to charity in exchange for being allowed to wear a sandwich board to preserve his modesty and then booked one of the private Tower Bridge walkways high above the street to run across.
Page said: “You can call me what you like, but at least I didn’t get arrested.” Details: www.claphamhousegroup.com
