London’s Theatre Royal gains new physiotherapy centre
A state-of-the-art, £1m physiotherapy centre is due to open in the basement of London’s Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in September 2003.
Called Metis, the new physio centre has been masterminded by entrepeneur Ronnie Truss, former co-founder of the Bank and Fish! restaurants, alongside ex-physio for Crystal Palace FC, David West – who is now the managing director of Metis.
The first Metis site was opened in 2001 in Croydon, offering a range of contemporary therapies aimed at both managing and rehabilitating individual’s problems.
The second Metis site at the Theatre Royal will of a very different design that incorporates standalone pods, to avoid any damage to the structure of the Grade I listed theatre.
The Theatre Royal Metis contains five treatment rooms and is situated in the centre of London’s theatre area, from which the owners hope to attract a lot of new business trade. Metis has also appointed Mike Chisholm as its clinical director, who is a former physio to the Royal Ballet Company.
It is hoped that, depending on the success of the second site, the Metis brand could potentially be rolled out in a scaled-down version to high street locations across the UK, offering a high quality of affordable physiotherapy, combined with a convenient location.
MD of Metis, David West, commented on the new expansion of the Metis brand: “I’ve been a qualified physiotherapist for nearly 22 years now and I’ve looked for the kind of place that Metis represents for a very long time. We’ve proved with our Croydon site that there is a market for what we do. Dependent on how the Theatre Royal site fares over the next year will shape our future as a company.” Details: www.metis-uk.com
