Las Vegas giant launches online casino
US casino giant, MGM Mirage, has launched an online casino based in the Isle of Man.
Oscar Nieboer, vice-president marketing of MGM Mirage, which owns or operates 19 casinos across two continents, said of MGM Mirage Online, a subsidiary to MGM Mirage set up in August 2001,: 'We will be bringing all the energy, excitement and magic of Las Vegas to the screen.'
The site, www.playmgmmirage.com, offers many of the same games, jackpots and prizes as the company's Las Vegas casinos, with games split into speciality games, table games and slot games.
There is no software to download to run the games. Players simply need to open an account. Before opening an account, players can experience the games for free under the FreePlay section, which allocates credits for betting.
The site also uses age and geo verification software aimed at ensuring bets are only accepted from people over 18 and who are not in areas where gambling is illegal.
The company says that the Isle of Man was chosen as the jurisdiction to conduct the initial launch because its 'high probity requirements and technology-proven environment make it well suited for gaming e-commerce'.
Lloyd Nathan, vice-president business/governmental affairs and general counsel for MGM Mirage Online, said: 'We have a lot at stake and consequently we will be going to every length to maintain the reputation and integrity of the MGM Mirage brand as we expand our business.'
