Indigo Pearl Phuket has transformed a former tin mining centre in Phuket, Thailand into a new hotel development.

The Na-Ranong family invested 800m Baht (£11.4m, 17m euro, US$21.5m) in converting the tin factory – which had been in the family for 100 years – into a resort.

The Indigo Pearl hotel development offers 277 bedrooms and suites and the eight food and beverage outlets offer both Asian and international cuisine.

Additional facilities include three swimming pools, a cooking school, tennis courts, a children’s club, a pavilion for fitness and meditation, a driving school and a snooker hall which contains its own bar.

Indigo Pearl Phuket managing director, Wichit Na-Ranong, said: “We felt it was time to look into the future and determine how we could really differentiate our experience at the resort to attract a polished and urbane clientele.

“After spending time studying market trends in Thailand and the region and learning what discerning travellers are looking for in a distinctive vacation experience, we developed the Indigo Pearl concept.”

The design of the resort was handled by architect, interior and landscape designer Bill Bensley.

Bensley added: “It has been such a good site to produce this type of concept and everything in the resort right down to the finest details fits in with the theme of the Na-Ranong’s family history of tin mining.

“There were two major points of inspiration to the design we created – the first was to use some of the wonderful old existing buildings which were constructed with elaborate hard wood. The second point was to incorporate Wichit’s family history into the design and we have been able to do this through every facet of the resort, including the eight food and beverage outlets and their names down through to the staff uniforms.” Details: www.indigo-pearl.com
