Health club operator Holmes Place has opened a new £10m facility in Mill Hill East, north London.

The 46,000sq ft( 4,300sq m), three-storey, purpose-built facility was designed by S&P Architects and offers a main pool, learner pool and a spa bath; changing facilities; a crèche and a café on the ground floor.

Each of the male, female and family changing areas also include a sauna and steamroom.

The first floor features the main gym, which incorporates a ladies-only gym, a holistic exercise studio and a health and beauty suite with six treatment rooms.

On the second floor is an exercise studio and a group cycling studio, kitted out by Startrac.

The cardiovascular and resistance equipment in the gyms is supplied by Technogym.

The club has a 5,000 member capacity and, at opening on the 5 December, it had around 2,500 members.

The club aims to appeal to both local families and commuting professionals. Its clublink membership scheme will enable professionals to use the club in the evenings and weekends and a club near their place of work during the week.

Holmes Place is set to open another new London club in 2006, though has yet to release details of its exact location.

The group has also announced the winners of its inaugural Summit Service Conference & Awards, held at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London, on 5 December 2005.

Clubs, teams and individuals were nominated by their colleagues for excellent customer service, with winners including Mohammed Ali, Headley Laing, Lesley Cuff, Kirstie Welch, Anna Baversock, Colin Burroughes and Vicci Flack.

The award for most consistent guest behaviour went to Amanda Packer from the Milton Keynes site.

The winning club was Holmes Place, Edinburgh, which scored highest in three surveys completed by every club.
