Health check for Southampton

Southampton City Council (SCC) has launched an online sport and fitness survey to help it gain a better understanding of the exercise habits of its residents.
The council – which operates seven leisure venues – hopes that both users and non-users of leisure facilities will complete the survey.
Conor Swift, general manager of The Quays Eddie Read Swimming and Diving Complex, said: “It will be particularly interesting to see the information we gain from people who don’t exercise and find out why they do not use the leisure facilities available.
“We would also like to know what motivates people to exercise and how we can help to make the residents of Southampton fitter and healthier.”
SCC plans to use the research as it develops services for the future, to help it provide the right facilities for current and prospective users.
It will also enable the council to develop promotions, including vouchers for free sessions, depending on the public’s interests.
So far, the survey has received 150 responses. Details: www.southampton.gov.uk
