Growth predicted for UK fitness equipment market
The UK fitness equipment market is forecast to grow to £350m in the next three years, according to a survey by AMA research.
Expansion in the private sector, investment in local authority facilities and increased marketing activities by equipment suppliers have helped stimulate the growth for market, which was estimated to be worth around £258m (manufacturers selling price) in 2002.
CV equipment accounts for 60-65 per cent of the market by value, but there has been a marked resurgence in the use of strength training equipment. The trend towards natural movement and low impact exercise has stimulated demand for products such as air resistance machines and cable-based strength systems.
