A new government office for science will be created within the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS).
Headed by the government schief scientific adviser, Sir David King, the Government Office for Science (GOS) will take over the functions and resources of the trans-departmental Science and Technolgy Group of the Office of Science and Innovation.
The new office will be responsible for advising the cabinet on aspects of government policy on Science and technology.
A separate DIUS Science and Innovation Group, headed by Sir Keith O’Nions, will be responsible for the science budget, including funding for science and society programmes, which directly affect science centres.
