Gold medalists dominate Honours List

Beijing Olympians have dominated the Queen's New year Honours List for their services to sport and disabled sport.

Three-time Beijing gold medal cyclist Chris Hoy acquired the highest order of a Knighthood, while swimmer Rebecca Adlington was awarded an OBE (Officer of the order of the British Empire) and Lee Pearson earned a CBE (Commander of the order of the British Empire). Other medalists include cyclist Darren Kenny (OBE) for his services to disabled sport, swimmers Sascha Kindred (OBE) and David Roberts (CBE) and rower Stephen Williams (OBE). Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton was also awarded with an OBE.

Chair of Reading Football Club, John Madejski, was also knighted for his contribution to charitable services and performance directors David Brailsford (British Cycling) and David Tanner (GB Rowing Team) both received a CBE. OBE awards were also extended to Cheryl Danson, chair of England Netball; Philip Lane, chief executive of Paralympics GB; Stephen Park, manager of the British Olympic Sailing Team; andTimothy Reddish, national performance director for disability swimming.

Gold medalists dominate Honours List

Beijing Olympians have dominated the Queen's New year Honours List for their services to sport and disabled sport.
