Gloucester to introduce museums entrance fees
Gloucester City Council is to introduce entrance fees to two of its heritage attractions – City Museum and Art Gallery and the Folk Museum.
The decision to put forward a £3 ticket at each site is part of the council’s efforts to plug a £200,000 gap in its cultural budget.
The City Mussum and Art Gallery is currently undergoing a make-over, partially funded by a Heritage Lottery Grant.
Martyn White, cabinet member for Heritage and Leisure said: "To update the museums and ensure they are providing what they need to be for the future we are going to need to bring in a moderate entry fee."
White added that a annual membership scheme will be introduced with proposed charges at £20 for a family membership and £10 for an individual.
