Norway-based health club chain Elixia Holding AS has acquired Sports Club, creating a fitness chain with more than 110,000 members in the Nordic region.
Following the merger, Elixia will have a total of 24 clubs in various Norwegian cities and an additional seven in Finland.
The majority shareholder in the merged company will be the private equity fund Norvestor, while Bjørn Maaside, the main shareholder in Sports Club, has obtained a 25 per cent stake in the combined company and will take the role of vice chair.
Elixia Holding AS operates the Elixia chain in Norway and Finland. Formed in 2000 and now with 170,000 members and over 54 clubs in five countries, parent company Elixia has developed leading positions in a number of major European cities including Berlin, Hamburg, Helsinki, Lyon, Munich, Oslo and Vienna.
